Concord Jet wins at Del Mar!

11/29/18 | Del Mar, CA – Dare To Dream Stable’s Concord Jet broke his maiden by taking his 8 rivals on a catch me if you can journey in a 5 1/2 furlong sprint at Del Mar. “The Jet” broke sharply, albeit a bit outward, from the gate and jockey Alonzo Quinonez quickly straightened him out and shot right to the lead. From that point on it was catch me if you can. The gray son of Concord Point set the opening quarter in a quick 22 seconds flat while opening up a comfortable 2 length lead over his closest pursuer. After a half mile Concord Jet had opened up a 3 length lead through a 45.69 fraction, while looking like he would just pull away from the field. When they hit the stretch, Quinonez had to get after “The Jet” a bit as the race favorite Violent Behavior began cutting into that 3 length margin. In deep stretch, the handsome gray gelding had to dig in & was able to hang on gamely by 1/2 length under the strong urging by Quinonez. Concord Jet stopped the clock on the sealed track labeled wet fast in 1:04.13. It was another 3 3/4 lengths back to the 3rd place finisher, proving that it was basically a 2 horse race from the top of the stretch to the wire. Concord Jet now has 1 victory and a 3rd place finish in his young 6 race career with earnings of $19,635. His future is looking bright as he begins to mature and figure things out!

Congratulations to the Dare To Dream Stable Partners on this exciting and much anticipated victory. Concord Jet has shown flashes of talent and it was nice to see him finally put it all together. It was another terrific training job by Brian Koriner and his team, as Concord has proven to be a difficult student to figure out. Brian is having an excellent Del Mar meet for both our stable and his entire barn. It was also a very nice ride by jockey Alonzo Quinonez who was told to get the lead and see how far “The Jet” would take them. He followed that blueprint to a tee, taking them wire to wire! Finally congratulations to the one person who had the lone ticket on the pick 6 singled to Concord Jet! With “The Jet’s” victory that person took home a cool $218,929.00!

Spiced Perfection wins the Betty Grable Stakes at Del Mar!

November 11, 2018 | Del Mar, CA –  Spiced Perfection once again showed why she is among the best California Bred fillies out there right now after capturing a very tough edition of $100,000 Betty Grable Stakes at Del Mar in race 8 today. Spiced Perfection was coming off an excellent, narrowly beaten 3rd place effort on the grass in the Unzip Me Stakes down the hill at Santa Anita. Going back to her preferred surface on the main track & facing older horses for the first time in stakes competition, “Spicey” would need to run her best race to take this 7 furlongs contest.

Top jockey Flavien Prat was aboard Spiced Perfection for the first time and did a fantastic job getting the classy daughter of Smiling Tiger out of the gates quickly from her inside post, securing a great position stalking the expected speed of Love A Honey Badger and Gorgeous Ginny. After the opening quarter that was run in a swift 22.71, Spiced Perfection was just 2 lengths off the pace while Prat was saving ground along the rail. Approaching the turn “Spicey” was beginning to creep up a bit and had the look of a horse ready to explode, but with no room to do so. Once they straightened for home Prat realized he was sitting on a ton of horse, and was still looking for any type of opening he could put the filly’s head through. Flavien showed why he is regarded as one of the top jockeys on either coast when he eyed a very small opening and bulled his way in between Love A Honey Badger and S Y Sky. Spiced Perfection took over from there, instantaneously surging to the lead. From that point Spiced Perfection had all the momentum and pulled clear in rather easy fashion to win by a very comfortable 2 1/4 lengths, stopping the clock in 1:23.21 for the 7 furlongs. This was Spiced Perfection’s 5th win from 13 starts with 3 of those wins being Stakes. She also has 4 seconds and 2 thirds in her other eight races showing remarkable consistency throughout her young career. Her career earnings are now at a very impressive $442,405, with a bright future still in front of her!

A hearty shout out to trainer Brian Koriner and his staff for the terrific job training Spiced Perfection and keeping her happy and in great from throughout the year. Spiced Perfection wins again in allowance at Del Mar!

08/24/18 | Del Mar, CA – Dare To Dream Stable’s 3 year-old multiple stakes winning filly Spiced Perfection got back to her winning ways in wearing down a solid group of allowance runners and pulling away at the finish to win by a widening 1 1/2 lengths at Del Mar in race 6 today.  “Spicey” was coming off an uncharacteristically dull performance in the $150K Fleet Treat Stakes for Cal Bred fillies back in July, finishing a disappointing 4th. With no other options currently available, Spiced Perfection was entered against open company and older horses for the first time while also donning blinkers for the first time. Spiced Perfection broke alertly and jockey Joe Talamo secured an outside stalking position about 3 lengths off the pace. Talamo kept that position while 3 deep on the backstretch and into the turn and he began to ask the bay daughter of Smiling Tiger for a bit more run as they hit the top of the stretch. As Spiced Perfection shifted out a bit more in the stretch, Talamo went to his left hand for urging and “Spicey” made a sustained move to get up on even terms with longtime leader Love A Honeybadger. About a sixteenth out, the determined filly took command of the race and shook clear in the final yards, pulling away with every stride to win clear by a widening 1 1/2 lengths in a snappy time of 1:10.56 under confident handling by Talamo. It was another 3 1/2 lengths back to the 3rd place finisher.

This was Spiced Perfection’s 4th win in her brief career, with 2 of those wins being stakes victories. She also has 4 runner-up finishes and a 3rd place finish in her 11 career starts. With this victory she now has amassed $372,985 in career earnings.

Congratulations to all the Dare To Dream Stable partners on this very gratifying win. We all knew that previous race was uncharacteristic and believed our champion filly would make amends. Kudos to trainer Brian Koriner and his staff on this win. Brian was very confident that the real “Spicey” would show up this time. He also decided to put blinkers on for the first time and she responded with a top performance. Jockey “Smokin” Joe Talamo once again proved that he and Spiced Perfection are a perfect fit. He has ridden her to perfection time and time again and been aboard her since her initial start as a 2 yr old.

He’s No Bull wins by almost 10 lengths at Belterra Park!

08/18/18 | Cincinnati, OH – Dare To Dream Stable’s homebred He’s No Bull, making only his second start, dominated a field of maidens by 10 lengths at Belterra Park in race 3. The gelded bay son of Haynesfield was coming off his maiden voyage where he broke a little slow in a five furlong dash and left himself a bit too much to do in the stretch while making a bit of a run. That was enough to show that added ground would benefit him in his next start. “The Bull” took the experience from his first race and move forward off that in a big way. This time when the starting gate sprung open, He’s No Bull broke very sharply and immediately went up right off the pacemaker in a stalking position sitting in 2nd. Jockey Dean Sarvis was sitting comfortably on him through an opening quarter of 23.22 on the deep Belterra Park dirt surface. Sarvis maintained that position through a half mile, still sitting in 2nd while only 1 1/2 lengths off the leader Imbeingfollowed. When they turned for home and hit the top of the stretch, Sarvis took aim on Imbeingfollowed. The veteran reinsman went to his vigorous left hand asking He’s No Bull for some more run. “The Bull” responded in a big way and went right by that long time leader while exploding through the stretch. He took full command of the race inside the 1/8th pole, opening up with every stride. In the end it was a dominating victory with He’s No Bull crossing the line 10 lengths in front in a final time of 1:13.48.

Congratulations to the Dare To Dream Stable team for this impressive first victory from a foal out of their mare, Devout Diva. This was Diva’s second foal to hit the races and first winner. Her other foal, She’s A Fine Line, has hit the board in 5 of 8 races and is on the cusp of hopefully breaking her maiden soon as well. Congratulations to trainer Danny Werre and Charlena Schenk Werre for their hard work and terrific job training He’s No Bull. From their fantastic Ellada Farm to The Thoroughbred Center, they have been with He’s No Bull since birth. Thanks to Jockey Dean Sarvis who rode “The Bull” with such confidence.

Jockamo’s Song wins allowance at Arlington Park in comeback race!

08/03/18 | Arlington Heights, IL – Dare To Dream Stable’s multiple stakes winning gelding, Jockamo’s Song, easily dispatched his 8 other rivals in winning a five furlong allowance turf dash by a clear 1 3/4 lengths. The classy gray went to post off an 8 month layoff after suffering an injury in a 4th place stake effort back in early December 2017 which required some time off to heal. The handsome son of Half Ours looked great in the paddock before the race and would leave the gate as the 9/5 favorite in what was a pretty tough allowance field. Jockey Mitchell Murrill did a fantastic job of hustling Jockamo’s Song out of the gate and getting him in a great spot tracking the early speed of Singinintheheat and Gray Mensch while only 3 lengths off the early pace. After the first 1/4 mile run in 22.42, Jockamo’s Song had already cruised passed Gray Mensch and had his sights set on leader Singinintheheat, who had a 2 length advantage on him. Turning for home it appeared to be a 2 horse race, with the rest of the field 5 lengths behind. The Louisiana Sprint Champion was gradually making up ground on the leader and in mid stretch he easily passed Singingintheheat at the sixteenth marker and went clear to the wire, stopping the clock in 57.72. This was Jockamo’s Song’s 9th victory, four of them being stake wins. He also has 3 seconds and 2 thirds from 21 starts and has now amassed $375,714 in his outstanding racing career.

Congratulations to all the Dare To Dream Stable partners many who were in attendance for raucous winner’s circle celebration. Many of the partners were seeing their favorite gray champion for the first time as his other 8 victories were achieved in the Pelican State of Louisiana. This was a fantastic team effort in getting Jockamo fit and ready off the long layoff. Kudos to Danny and Charlena Werre who provided great care in legging him up at both at their EllAda Farm and then at The Thoroughbred Center in Lexington, KY. Props also go out to trainer Mike Stidham, Hilary Pridham, Rigo Rosas, and the entire team for having “Jocko” sharp and ready for a tough allowance sprint off the lengthy layoff. Thanks as well to jockey Mitchell Murrill. Mitchell & Jockamo have been quite a pair over the years. Mitchell’s first ever stakes victory of his career was aboard Jockamo’s Song 3 years ago! Mitchell rode him just like he had so many times in the past, crossing the wire on top!

Memory Bank wins at Arlington Park in Allowance Company!

05/27/18 | Arlington Heights, IL – Dare To Dream Stable’s 4 yr old gelding Memory Bank overcame a troubled trip to secure a very nice $38K allowance win at beautiful Arlington Park. Memory Bank was coming off a well deserved mini-vacation after a long and successful 2017 thru the early part of 2018 campaign. The handsome son of Misremembered would go to post as the even money favorite in this one mile route on Arlington’s pristine turf course. Memory Bank, breaking from the inside post, was very keen from the get go and jockey Mitchell Murrill had his hands full in the early stages of the race. Going into the first turn, Memory Bank was a bit rank and up on the heels of the early leaders. Murrill had to make sure he didn’t clip heels with any of those horses right in front of him while trying to put the brakes on Memory Bank and having to maneuver him out of trouble at the same time.  Memory Bank finally settled going down the backside, but was still in tough position bottled up on the inside of horses. Murrill had a ton of horse left going into the 2nd turn and it was just a matter of finding an opening for Memory Bank to make his patented, sustained move. With about a furlong to go, Murrill was able to shift Memory Bank out a lane off the rail and he burst through an opening in between horses to surge into the lead. Memory Bank was then able to fend off a charging Andreas to secure the victory by 3/4’s of a length, while it was another 2 1/4 back to the third place finisher. This was Memory Bank’s 3rd career victory in 11 starts. He has 4 seconds and 2 third place finishes to go along with those victories. In fact he has only finished off the board in one start, one in which he was the victim of a horrendous decision by the Gulfstream Park stewards and DQ’d from another second place finish earlier this Winter. The remarkably consistent Memory Bank has now amassed $87,347.00 in career earnings. He will look to move that total over the $100K mark when he makes his next start in the $75K Black Tie Affair Handicap going 1 1/16 miles on the turf at Arlington on June 9th.

Congratulations to all the Dare To Dream Stable partners, many of whom were able to enjoy the winner’s circle celebration in front of a large Memorial Day weekend crowd. Kudos to trainer Mike Stidham, Hilary Pridham, and Rigo Rosas getting Memory Bank ready to win off the layoff. A shout out to trainer Danny Werre for doing a fantastic job of caring for Memory bank while on vacation and then getting him fit and sharp for his return. Lastly, thanks to jockey Mitchell Murrill for not panicking when he was in a bit of a compromising position for much of the race, knowing he was on the best horse.

Spiced Perfection wins the $200K Evening Jewel Stakes at Santa Anita!

April 7, 2018 | Arcadia, CA – Dare To Dream Stable’s 3 year old filly Spiced Perfection gave her connections a great thrill by winning the $200,000 Evening Jewel Stakes in front of 40,000 strong on Santa Anita Derby Day. Spiced Perfection was coming off a 2 1/2 month freshening after a tough, but successful 2 yr old campaign that included a win in the Generous Portion Stakes at Del Mar.

A field of eight Cal Bred fillies were lined up for this 6.5 furlong stake battle with the heavy odds-on favorite Show It N Moe It drawn nicely on the outside, while Spiced Perfection drew the disadvantageous rail. Joe Talamo, the regular rider aboard “Spicy”, would have to make sure she broke sharply and then try to work out a trip from the inside without getting in a compromised position. Fortunately, the small but powerfully built bay daughter of Smiling Tiger broke on cue and Talamo was able to secure a good position on the inside as favored Show It N Moe It and longshot Blessed Lady battled on the lead.  While on the backside Talamo looked to have Spiced Perfection in the perfect spot saving all the ground while Show It N Moe It was in a real tussle on the lead with Blessed Lady. That top pair battled through the opening half mile in a snappy 45.48. Talamo continued to track those two foes around the turn while looking to have a ton of horse beneath him. When it was time to go, Talamo slipped Spiced Perfection to the outside to engage Show It N Moe It who had finally put away Blessed Lady. At the top of the stretch, Talamo had “Spicy” right along the outside of the favorite and the stretch battle to the wire was on.  Hall Of Fame jockey Mike Smith aboard Show It n Moe It and Talamo glanced at one another and both began to vigorously ask their fillies for everything they had. It was back and forth as they battled down the length of stretch with each filly putting her head in front a few times. Eventually, Spiced Perfection proved she had a little more in the tank and was able to out finish the favorite to the wire by a good neck in a thrilling stretch duel. She stopped the clock in a snappy 1:17.08 for the 6 1/2 furlongs. It was another 4 3/4 lengths back to the 3rd place finisher, which showed how good both these fillies ran and how they were much the best on this day.

This was Spiced Perfection’s 3rd win in 8 career starts. She also has 3 seconds and 1 third to go along with those victories. The only off-the-board finish in her career came on the turf, a surface she did not seem to care for. The multiple stakes winning filly has now amassed $277,625 in her young career, with hopes of many more victories on the horizon.

Congratulations to all the Dare To Dream Stable Partners, many of whom were a part of the raucous celebration in Santa Anita’s winner’s circle. It was an absolutely outstanding training job by Brian Koriner who had “Spicy” ready to fire at first asking off the layoff which was no easy feat, especially in a tough stake race. Finally, what can you say about jockey “Smokin” Joe Talamo? That was plain and simple a perfect ride that was ridden to script! It’s not easy to out ride Mike Smith, but that’s exactly what Talamo did in this race. Spiced Perfection will now look forward to a long Summer campaign and continued success the rest of the year.

The Weef wins at Tampa Bay Downs!

02/15/18 | Tampa, FL – Dare To Dream Stable’s 3 yr old filly The Weef finally broke through with her maiden victory at Tampa Bay Downs after a few close finishes earlier in the meet. The Weef was one of six going to post in this 1 mile and 40 yards race contested over the main track. With jockey Ademar Santos taking the mount, The Weef broke well and immediately engaged with the two leaders for the first 100 yards. Sensing a good pace battle up front, Santos let those foes battle on top while letting The Weef settle into a nice stalking trip through the first turn.  The Weef was sitting 3rd about 5 lengths off the lead while traveling very comfortably as they went down the backside with Santos just biding his time and letting the leaders battle up front. After 6 furlongs, Santos let the reigns loosen a few notches and the good looking bay daughter of Gone Astray began to move up on the leaders. The Weef passed the front running Forty Knots and set her sights on the co- favorite Reigning Gal who still had almost 2 lengths up on The Weef.  The Weef & Santos continued their sustained drive as they rounded the second turn and started eating up ground while straightening for home. The Weef continued to put relentless pressure on the leader and in deep stretch finally put her nose in front of Reigning Gal. That rival did not want go away quietly however and fought back to get on even terms again, but Santos did a great job of keeping after The Weef and out battled her rival to cross the wire a full head in front. It was another 8 1/4 lengths back to the 3rd place finisher as this turned into an exciting match race down the stretch. The Weef has compiled a record of 1 win, 3 seconds and a third from 9 career starts and earnings of $20,440.00

Congratulations to all the Dare To Dream Stable Partners, a few who experienced their first wins as owners with Dare To Dream.  Also a special shout out to trainer Rodolphe Brisset who is the latest addition to the outstanding Dare To Dream Stable trainer roster and got his first win for the stable. Kudos to Rodolphe and his entire team! Thanks to jockey Ademar Santos who had been on The Weef in the mornings but was riding the filly for the first time in the afternoons. He rode her to perfection with a ton of confidence.

Memory Bank wins at Tampa Bay Downs in Allowance Company!

01/05/18 | Tampa, FL – Dare To Dream Stable’s 4 year old gelding, Memory Bank, gutted out a hard fought allowance win on the turf at Tampa Bay Downs on a sunny Friday afternoon in Oldsmar, Florida.  Memory Bank was coming into this race off three consecutive 2nd place finishes, all in tough allowance conditions.  On this day, the handsome chestnut Illinois bred son of Misremembered, who looked like the one to beat on paper in this 1 1/16 mile turf event, would finally get the trip needed to take home the winning purse money.  Breaking from an outside post, which has been the unlucky norm for Memory Bank, Jockey Brian Pedroza hustled the chestnut out of the gate to try and secure a comfortable stalking position without getting hung out too wide.  Pedroza had Memory Bank in 5th about 5 lengths off the pace but only 2-3 wide after the opening 1/4 mile.  As they moved down the backside, the expected pacesetter and second betting choice Trismen looked to be traveling comfortably while holding a 1-2 length lead.  After six furlongs, Memory Bank was still about 5 lengths off the lead and it looked like Pedroza was going to have a lot of work to do to catch Trismen who was still traveling easy on the lead as he looked or his 3rd win in a row on the grass.  When they approached the 2nd turn, Memory Bank was being asked for his run by Pedroza. He responded and started closing the gap on the leader while passing the other few runners who were part of the early pace scenario.  Memory Bank was 3 lengths behind and still had a lot of work to do to reel in the leader Trismen as they completed the bend and straightened for home.  Pedroza vigorously asked Memory Bank for all he had and the gutsy gelding gave it to him, making up ground with every stride.  Even with Memory Bank working hard, it was beginning to look like the finish line might come too quickly as Trismen was proving to be a very worthy adversary.  Memory Bank would not give up without a fight and with a last desperate burst in the closing yards he was able to stick his nose in front right as they crossed the wire to earn the victory!

Memory Bank now has 2 wins, 4 seconds, and a third in 9 career starts with earnings of $62,447.  In his 9 starts, the consistent chestnut gelding has crossed the wire in the top 3 in 8 of those contests as he was unjustly D’qd from another 2nd place finish at Gulfstream Park West 2 starts back. Congratulations to all the Dare To Dream Stable partners who are really enjoying the ride with Memory Bank. Thanks to a great job by trainer Michael Stidham, Hilary Pridham, Ben Trask, and the entire team for keeping Memory Bank in great form and looking fabulous as well!  Finally kudos to Jockey Brian Pedroza who worked his tail off getting Memory Bank to the wire in time, and is winning at close to a 50% clip riding Stidham horses at the meet.

Golden Story wins at Suffolk Downs for 2nd in a row!

Dare To Dream Stable’s Golden Story invaded the city of Boston and Suffolk Downs for the second time in a month on September 3rd, and left there with his second consecutive victory in race #2! The 7 year old dark bay gelding by Medaglia D’Oro certainly proved he has taken a liking to the Boston sod, after easily dispatching his nine rivals in this 5 furlong turf dash. Breaking from the tricky rail draw, Jockey Edwin Gonzalez tried to make sure he got Golden Story away swiftly in order to secure a good position to avoid having to go wide and circle the field. While Golden Story did break a tad slow, Gonzalez did a fantastic job rushing Golden Story up the rail and into a decent position. He then waited patiently on the inside while staying close enough until room opened up on the inside. As they went through the turn, there was a clear opening and Gonzalez took advantage and slipped through to gain a clear path straightening for home. He then shifted Golden Story to the 2 path where he set dead aim on the leader Uncle Chato who had wrestled away the lead in upper stretch and opened up a one length lead. Golden Story, with all the momentum, was bearing down on the leader through the stretch and eventually wore down and easily powered by Uncle Chato to cross the wire by a widening 1 1/2 lengths. Golden Story now has back to back victories for the stable after a few tough-luck races to start his 7 yr old campaign earlier this Summer. In his 5 starts this year following a lengthy layoff, he has 2 wins, a second, and a third with earnings of $39,090.00. Golden Story will look for the hat trick when he invades Suffolk Downs again at the end of the month.

Congratulations to the partners on back to back wins from their wily veteran. Thanks to Team Stidham on a fantastic bit of training and getting Golden Story back to the top of his game at age seven. Finally, a congratulations to jockey Edwin Gonzalez who was wearing the Dare To Dream Stable Colors for the first time while giving Golden Story a superb ride!
