Jockamo’s Song Notches 6th Win at Fair Grounds!

Dare To Dream Stable’s Jockamo’s Song showed off his class and consistency again by winning another tough allowance sprint on the Fairgrounds turf course. The handsome gray son of Half Ours took flight from the outside slot in post 8 with his regular rider, Mitchell Murrill, in the irons.  Jockamo broke sharply and Murrill immediately put him in a stalking position just off the early speed.  With his eyeballs on the top pair after a swift opening quarter of 21.95, Jockamo was just 1 1/2 lengths off the lead sitting in 3rd on the outside about 3-4 wide.  When they reached the bend, Jockamo was poised to begin his assault on the leader, Brilliant Speed.  Murrill  was sitting on a loaded rocket for the stretch run and was just waiting to lite the fuse.  When he did,  Jockamo engaged Brilliant Speed at the furlong marker and took the lead at the sixteenth pole under strong urging, while also separating himself from the betting favorite Eden Grey’s Kitten.  At that point it was just a short dash to the finish where Jockamo easily held off the closing Rock N Sake to win by a measured 3/4 length.

Jockamo’s Song, a private purchase by Dare To Dream Stable as an un-broke Two Year-old colt, is a multiple stakes winner with 6 victories from 14 career starts, which also include 2 seconds and a third for earnings of $243,864.00.  In his last 8 starts at The Fairgrounds he has 6 wins and 2 seconds showing his love for the Bayou track.  He will next try and defend his title in the Costa Rising Stakes on Louisiana Derby Day on April 1st.  Congratulation to all our partners, many who were celebrating in the winner’s circle.  Another fantastic training job by Michael Stidham, Hilary Pridham, and the entire team. They had Jockamo  looking great and ready to go after a 60 day layoff caused by the EHV-1 outbreak and quarantine issue at Fair Grounds earlier this winter. Gratitude to Jockey Mitchell Murrill who fits “Jocko” like a glove and rides him with a ton of confidence every time he gets legged up on him. It was a beautiful ride by Mitchell.

TIZNOBLE Wins tough 2X Allowance at Fair Grounds Race Course!

Dare To Dream Stable’s Tiznoble gutted out an impressive front running victory in a salty allowance race on the Fairgrounds turf course on Louisiana Derby Preview Day. Tiznoble was claimed by the stable back in December for 30K and immediately paid dividends when he was confidentally entered in the 75k Woodchopper Stakes where Tiznoble showed his heart and ability by just missing out on a stake victory losing by a neck to multiple graded stake winner One Mean Man. Tiznoble came out of that race great and had been training terrific leading up to this allowance race which Tiznoble was the overwhelming 7-5 favorite.

Breaking from post 7 with Mitchell Murrill in the irons, Tiznoble broke sharply and immediately went to gain the early advantage. The handsome son of Tiznow blazed through an opening quarter in 23.40 while gaining a one length advantage over the pressing Adios Nardo. Tiznoble maintained that advantage through a half mile with Murrill slowing down the pace a bit, though the half mile split was still a quick 47.74. As they approached the far turn, Tiznoble was now confronted by Adios Nardo while the closers began to gain some momentum as well. Tiznoble and Adios Nardo jostled a bit before the big grey repelled that challenge after straightening for the drive. Now came the challenge of LuRae’s Lucky Sky who was charging fast. Murrill went to a right handed whip at the three-sixteenth and maintained the lead into the final furlong where things got a bit tense as Tiznoble had to really fight to hang on to his lead as LuRae who had the dream trip continued to challenge Tiznoble down the stretch. The gutsy grey came out a bit in deep stretch and brushed with his competitor but not enough to warrant any change, and Tiznoble prevailed gamely by a head.

Since being claimed back on December 15th for $30K, Tiznoble now has 2 starts for Dare To Dream Stable with a close 2nd in a stakes attempt and now this allowance score. He has already amassed $40,200.00 in his two starts and looks to have a bright future for the stable with undoubtedly another stake attempt in his future. Congratulations go out to all the Dare To Dream Stable Partners who participated on this sharp claim. Kudos to trainer Michael Stidham, Hilary Pridham, and the entire team who have done a fabulous job since we acquired Tiznoble & have him at the top of his game. Finally a shout out to jockey Mitchell Murrill, who always rides hard for the stable and once again got us across the line on top and into the winner’s circle.

Sheza Super Star Wins at First Asking in Maiden Special Weight at Hawthorne Racecourse!

2 YEAR-OLD DAUGHTER OF GRAEME HALL LOOKS THE PART IN MAIDEN SPECIAL WEIGHT VICTORY IN HER CAREER BOW ON 12/1/16 IN RACE #2 AT HAWTHORNE RACECOURSE

Dare To Dream Stable’s Graeme Hall filly, Sheza Super Star, made her debut a winning one in dominant style. Sheza Super Star broke out of the starting gate like a rocket ship and seized command of the race almost immediately. When the Michael Reavis trained entrant Give Me Mo Money engaged Super Star shortly thereafter, jockey Carlos Montalvo let that filly take a very small lead knowing all he had to do is ask his filly when it was time and she would respond. Once they reached the turn, Montalvo decided the time was “now” to force the issue. In a split second, the sharp-looking chestnut filly swallowed up Give Me Mo Money and shook clear midway through the bend to open up by 3 lengths. When they straightened for home Montalvo guided Sheza Super Star toward the rail while maintaining a safe advantage inside the 1/8th pole. It was now just a formality, as Montalvo continued on with mild encouragement to the finish with “The Super Star”, crossing the wire 2 lengths in front of Make Me Mo Money. It was a very professional and impressive first-time effort by the Dare To Dream Stable color bearer. Sheza Super Star was a private purchase as a yearling by Dare To Dream. She’s out of the multiple stakes producing Housebuster mare, Starbuster.

Congratulations go out to trainer Mike Stidham, who after winning the Fairgrounds training title last year, followed that up with being the champion trainer by earnings at Arlington Park this past Summer. Kudos to Hilary Pridham, Rigo Rojas, and the entire Stidham barn who all had a hand in Sheza Super Star’s path to victory! It also wouldn’t have been possible without the superb handling by jockey Carlos Montalvo. He has been working the filly since she’s been at Hawthorne and he has said since her first work that she could run. In the paddock before getting a leg up he knew he was sitting on the winner and rode her in that manner! Finally, congratulations to all the Dare To Dream Stable Partners who were treated to an early Christmas/Chanukah present with this performance!

Three Stakes Kick Off Fair Grounds Meet

Early morning at Fair Grounds Race Course

A total of 105 horses were entered across 10 races in advance of the Nov. 19 Twilight Opening Day at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots.

The racing season kicks off with three stakes for Louisiana-breds on opening day, designed as preps for Louisiana Champions Day presented by Acadian Ambulance Dec. 10.

Owner-trainer-breeder Charles C. Smith’s millionaire veteran String Kingheads the field in the $50,000 Mr. Sulu Overnight at one mile on the Stall-Wilson turf course.

The 8-year-old son of Crowned King faces eight others in the Mr. Sulu under jockey James Graham from post six. His chief rival comes in the form of Royce G. Roberts’ Benwill, a 7-year-old son of Leestown. Winner of the John Henry Stakes at Evangeline Downs in April, the Jose Mendez trainee was beaten just over a length by String King in this summer’s Louisiana Legends Turf Stakes and will be guided from the rail by John Jacinto.

One race later in the Heitai Overnight at six furlongs on the main track, Dare to Dream Stable’s Jockamo’s Song returns to the Fair Grounds main track. He has never been beaten sprinting over the surface, including a win in last year’s Louisiana Champions Day Sprint in which he beat this race’s millionaire namesake.

Trained by Mike Stidham, the 4-year-old Half Ours gelding will retain regular rider Mitchell Murrill from post three in a full field of 14.

Drawn two stalls further inside is Gillian and Kirk L. Harris’ Sir Genghis. A two-time stakes winner at this year’s Evangeline Downs meet, the 5-year-old son of Tale of the Cat will cut back after four consecutive efforts around two turns. David Flores will ride for trainer Chad Pitzer from the fence.

In the day’s final stakes race, a field of 13 fillies and mares will travel six furlongs on the main track in the Happy Ticket Overnight led by Roger G. Smith’s multiple stakes winner Smittys Cougar.

The 3-year-old Half Ours   filly will be in search of her third straight win and eighth win overall in her 14th start for trainer Rob Faucheux after tallies at Remington Park and Delta Downs. David Flores will ride from post four.

The 11-time Fair Grounds leading trainer Tom Amoss will send out the main competition in the form of W C Racing’s Ramona’s Wildcat. The 5-year-old Wildcat Heir mare exits a runner-up effort in the Open Mind Stakes at Churchill Downs and moves back in against Louisiana-bred company. James Graham will have the mount from post seven.

Heart Stopper Gets the Blood Pumping in Rallying Win at Hawthorne Racecourse For Dare To Dream Stable!

6 YEAR-OLD SON OF LION HEART LAUNCHES STAUNCH RALLY FROM 8 LENGTHS BACK TO EARN 6TH CAREER VICTORY ON 10/7/16 IN RACE #7 AT HAWTHORNE RACECOURSE

Dare To Dream Stable’s 6 year old gelding Heart Stopper proved much the best in a race originally scheduled for the lawn. Taken off the grass due to heavy rains the prior day and with a field scratched down to just 4 runners, Heart Stopper still had the tough task of turning the tables on 3/5 race favorite Lassell who defeated him at Arlington Park in their prior race. With jockey Carlos Montalvo back aboard, Heart Stopper broke alertly along with the rest of the compact field. Montalvo shifted Heart Stopper to the inside while reserved around the first turn. After a Half mile clocked in 48.67, Heart Stopper was last of four but just 3 lengths off the lead. As they continued down the backside, Montalvo was just sitting on Heart Stopper while suddenly losing ground on the entire field. As they approached the second turn, Heart Stopper was now 8 lengths off the lead and was looking like he was going to call it a day. Montalvo then shifted Heart Stopper off the inside and swung out four wide around the turn and into the stretch , leaving the gelding with a lot of work left to do just to get into the trifecta.  Montalvo gave Heart Stopper one left handed tap and Heart Stopper exploded down the stretch with a tremendous closing kick to gobble up the ground & easily kick clear to win by 3 lengths going away. Heart Stopper now has 3 wins, 2 seconds and 1 third from 9 starts, with earnings of $49,508 for 2016.

Congratulations to all the Dare To Dream Partners who have received a hat trick of victories this year from Heart Stopper. Kudos to trainer Mike Stidham, Hillary Pridham, Rigo Rosas, and the entire Stidham barn for another great training job. Finally to jockey Carlos Montalvo who rode the “Stopper” with the most supreme confidence. He gave us a bit of a scare in the middle portion of the race, but in the end there was never a doubt who was best on this day!

Weekend Superfecta at Arlington Park for Dare To Dream Stable Horse Racing Partnerships Over Labor Day Weekend!

He’s A Dandy Candy Wins at Arlington on 09/03/16 To Lead Off the 4 Race Weekend DTD Superfecta

Dare To Dream Stable’s He’s A Dandy Candy proved victory is sweet redemption after dispatching his other 8 rivals and finally breaking his maiden in this 5 furlong turf dash.  It’s not the first time the good looking gray son of Sidney’s Candy has crossed the finish line first, as he looked like a winner two races back only to be questionably disqualified for interference in the stretch.  It was a decision by the stewards which came under quite a bit of scrutiny, but this time Dandy left no doubt who was the winner.  With jockey Mitchell Murrill back in the irons, Dandy was breaking from the rail in the field of nine.  When the gates sprung open Dandy broke on top, but was immediately joined to his outside by String Puppet who was rushed up and determined to get the lead by jockey E.T. Baird.  Murrill let String Puppet take a slight lead as he was very confident he had more horse than Baird and could push the button whenever he needed to.  When they hit the bend the two foes were on even terms, but Dandy was traveling much easier.  Straightening for home, He’s A Dandy Candy put away String Puppet and sprinted to the finish line.  Sacred Crown made a brief bid to pass String Puppet for 2nd, but win was really never in doubt with Dandy crossing the finish line with one length to spare. It was another 1 1/4 lengths back to the Rivelli trained String Puppet for the show. See video replay below.

Dare To Dream’s Runners finish 2nd, 3rd & 4th in Other Labor Day Weekend Action

In other weekend action for Dare To Dream Stable, Fashion Hill finished 4th in the 9th race at Arlington Park on 09/03/16. The gray daughter of Old Fashioned set a pressured pace going a mile on the turf, put that pace rival away at the top of the stretch, but could not hold off the closers.

Heart Stopper ran 3rd at Arlington Park in the 7th race on 9/4/16. He sat towards the latter half of the field in the 1 1/16 mile grass affair, made a nice move at the top of the stretch to gain 2nd, but leveled off to finish a close 3rd. He’s hit the board in 5 of his last 6 races with 2 victories in that span.

Finally, Kingston Terrace finished 2nd on 9/5/16 in race #5 at Arlington Park in a 2X allowance / Optional $50,000 claimer going 5 furlongs on the turf. The ultra-consistent Johannesburg mare rallied strongly from 4th place, about 6 lengths back at the top of the stretch, only to run out of ground and lose by a short nose.

Lord of Chaos Makes It 2 In A Row At Del Mar With Allowance Win For Dare To Dream Stable!

4 YEAR-OLD SON OF TEMPLE CITY TAKES TURF ROUTE FROM OFF THE PACE ON 08/27/16 IN RACE #10

Dare To Dream Stable’s Lord Of Chaos doubled up on his maiden special weight win at Del Mar less than a month ago, taking down a full starting gate of allowance foes in race #10 on 08/27/16. With  veteran jockey Jamie Theriot in the irons for the first time on Lord of Chaos, the dark bay broke alertly from the gate and obtained a nice stalking trip early on in 4th place and about 3 lengths from the lead in the field of 10.  A half-mile into the race Lord of Chaos was still in 4th place, but was creeping a bit closer on the leaders and within 2 lengths of them and still on the inside. After 3/4 of a mile in 1:12.36 and heading into the turn, Theriot tilted Lord of Chaos to the outside a bit and he began to make a move on the leaders 3 wide. He gained the lead just inside the sixteenth pole and held off the furious charge of Temple Keys to win by a 1/2 length in the 1 1/16 mile turf contest and take home the winners share of the $62,000 purse, bringing his total earnings for the year to well over $100,000. The final time for the race was 1:42.30.

Congratulations go out to the Dare To Dream Stable partners who have enjoyed an exciting year with Lord of Chaos and an ultra-satisfying meet “where the turf meets the surf”! A big thanks to trainer Brian Koriner and his entire team who have really done a super job with Lord of Chaos. Jamie Theriot gave Lord of Chaos a perfect ride as well, so thanks and congrats to him as well. See below for the video of the race and a link to the race chart as well.

Del Mar Win for Lord of Chaos Tops Interesting Weekend for Dare To Dream Stable!

Lord of Chaos wins Maiden Special Weight at Del Mar on July 22, 2016!

Dare To Dream Stable’s Lord Of Chaos broke through the maiden ranks by beating a full field of California Breds in a one mile turf event at beautiful Del Mar. With top turf jockey Flavien Prat aboard, the good looking bay gelding by Temple City was set to break from the 2 hole in the packed starting gate. When the gates sprung open, Lord broke sharply but Flavien immediately took a hold of him and settled towards the back of the full field. A confident Prat was in no hurry & he just let Lord Of Chaos settle into a comfortable spot through the first quarter mile while saving some ground. At that point of call Lord was further back than he had been in any of his previous races, about 9 lengths off the leader. Lord was still traveling very comfortably on the back side, and when they reached the half mile marker he began to creep up a bit on the pack. Then when they reached the 6 furlong marker he made a very powerful middle move with Prat weaving him through horses to get within 3 lengths from the lead in a matter of a split second. The field was now navigating their way through the second turn with Lord Of Chaos in 3rd and ready to pounce on the leaders as soon as there would be an opening in the front wall of horses. Lord finally found a gap outside and he shot through to gain the lead in the stretch a sixteenth out. It was now down to a battle between him and the #11 Ward ‘n Jerry. In the end Lord was just too tough and prevailed under confident urging by a growing 1/2 length to take the lion’s share of the nice $63,000 purse. Lord Of Chaos has amassed $64,581.00 since debuting in January of 2016 with three 3rd place finishes at Santa Anita to go along with this maiden score by the sea! He’ll try to add to that total before the Del Mar meet ends with another start there later in the meet.

Congratulations go out to all the Dare To Dream Stable partners who had been teased with some strong efforts by Lord only to get beat by some small margins in previous races and with some terrible racing luck in his previous start. Kudos to trainer Brian Koriner and his entire team who have done a fantastic job keeping the talented gelding sharp while also making some subtle changes that produced Lord’s best effort to date. Finally to Jockey Flavien Prat who once again proved why he is considered one of the best young jockeys out there and one who excels on the turf. He rode Lord Of Chaos like he knew he was on the best horse and it was a picture perfect ride!

He’s a Dandy Candy wins at Arlington Park, but is wrongfully taken down by the stewards on July 22, 2016!

Dare To Dream Stable’s He’s a Dandy Candy was robbed of a hard earned victory in the 6th race at Arlington on 7/22/16. This was a 5 furlong turf sprint and the good looking gray Sidney’s Candy gelding was seeking his maiden score after several on the board and 4th place finishes in his career to date. He’s a Dandy Candy broke well, but was brushed by another rival and shuffled back between rivals midway through the backstretch. He was guided inside to save some ground on the turn by jockey Mitchell Murrill. Inside the 1/16th pole, He’s a Dandy Candy launched his move from 3rd to take the lead and prevail by a long neck and get the victory, while drifting out slightly under right handed urging by Murrill. Shortly after the horses were returning to get unsaddled, the Objection sign was lit up and the celebration was put on hold. It took the Arlington Park stewards about 12 minutes to come up with an egregious decision to disqualify He’s a Dandy Candy from 1st and place him 4th despite the replays clearly showing drifting in by the outside horse as well as some other interference going on. In short, there were multiple minor infractions by multiple horses which has NO impact on the placing of any of the horses in the race. This was especially true of the 1 horse ridden by C. H. Marquez, Jr. who was the one who had made the objection and was completely out of horse at the time he provided his academy award acting job. Somehow. those manning the chairs in the steward’s box bought the act and still couldn’t figure out that it didn’t matter anyway. The decision was decried by every single person we ran across at Arlington Park including a bunch of disgruntled gamblers, other trainers and the track handicapper. Such is racing though. It’s one of the problems in the sport when you have unchecked and unfettered incompetence with no oversight. An area of racing that needs attention for sure. Our partners and the betting public deserved better.

Heart Stopper Runs a Nice 2nd at Arlington Park on July 23, 2016 Off the Heels of 2 straight Victories to Cap Off the weekend.

We’d be remiss if we didn’t give our boy Heart Stopper some credit for a nice effort in the 3rd race at Arlington on 7/23/16. He was stepping up in class again off 2 straight hard earned victories at Arlington. It looked like he was going to get the hat trick as he gained the lead in the 1 mile turf contest inside the 1/16th pole, but was run down in the final couple jumps to lose by just over a length. The hard-knocking IL Bred by Lion Heart has 2 wins and 2 places in his last 4 starts and is in very sharp form. Hopefully he can start another winning streak next time out.

HEART STOPPER WINS 2ND IN A MONTH AT ARLINGTON PARK ON JULY 4, 2016

6 Year-Old Lion Heart Gelding sets off some Dare To Dream Stable Fireworks in turf win!

With a large festive 4th of July holiday crowd in attendance, Dare To Dream Stable’s 6 yr old Gelding Heart Stopper treated his backers with some fireworks of his own. Coming off a narrow 2nd place defeat in his last outing, Heart Stopper was looking to get back to the winner’s circle he visited 2 starts back. With Jockey Carlos Montalvo riding Heart Stopper for the first time, the dark bay son of Lion Heart broke sharply to immediately secure a nice tracking position in 3rd place along the rail. Montalvo had Heart Stopper in a perfect spot just a few lengths of the leaders through the opening half mile which was clocked in 49.1 seconds. With the first 6 furlongs in the rear view mirror, Heart Stopper began to inch up on the leaders and was now just a 1/2 length from the two foes he had been tracking. Montalvo shifted Heart Stopper to the 2 path after the 2nd bend and engaged long time leader Mendota while the other pacesetter Value Voucher faded. Heart Stopper struck a narrow lead past the furlong marker and crossed the wire with a 1/2 length to spare on Mendota under confident handling by Montalvo.

Congratulations to all the Dare To Dream Stable Partners on a great win, and a terrific ending to a great holiday weekend! Kudos again to trainer Mike Stidham, Hilary Pridham, Ben Trask and the entire Stidham team on having Heart Stopper ready to roll on a short 10-day turnaround. Finally a big shout out to jockey Carlos Montalvo who rode Heart Stopper masterfully. He’s a tough horse to ride and you would never know it was the first time he was legged up on him.

This was Heart Stopper’s 2nd victory within a month to go along with a 2nd place finish during that time frame as well!  He now has an overall record of 31-5-9-2 with earnings of $148,656.

THUNDER AFLEET WINS AT GULFSTREAM PARK ON JUNE 25, 2016

3 Year-Old Northern Afleet Gelding Comes From Last To First To Notch Maiden Win!

Dare To Dream Stable’s Thunder Afleet notched his maiden win on Saturday, June 25, 2016 at Gulfstream Park in race #11 and he did it the hard way! Trailing the field by over 20 lengths through the opening half mile and not even visible on the simulcast feed, Jockey Martin Ramirez finally got the gelded son of Northern Afleet into gear. He unleashed a powerful move to pass several horses in the large field of 12 and get back into contention near the 1/8th pole in this 1 turn mile contest. He was 5th and within 7 lengths of the leader and still rolling at that point while the jock had lost his whip. Ramirez kept giving Thunder Afleet reminders with some slaps on the neck and shoulder and he kept on responding, getting up on the wire with a widening 1/2 length to spare in a very game effort.

Thunder Afleet is trained for Dare To Dream Stable by David Kassen. He now has an overall record of 8-1-0-2.
